Oh so quickly we’re here. Time counted, flies.
I sat down to plan this training block on a beach in Thailand. This race has been a dream for more than 20 years. It felt unreal then to be preparing to race it.
Now here I am, less than 24 hours from the start line.
The barriers are up along the roads, the signs telling spectators to cheer. My own preparations are almost complete too.
This morning I ticked off my last run, 3 miles with some strides. Now just let race morning come.
To state my biggest fear, I don’t know how the gels will go. I’ll likely know from the first. If that doesn’t go well, I fall back to an unfuelled race and enjoy the day.
I think I’m in good shape. If the gels can go okay, I believe I can too.
It’s going to be warm. By midday it could be 20 degrees. That’s much hotter than my training through winter, so I’ll need to adapt to that.
That’s fine too. If it’s too hot, I’ll relax, and enjoy what’s left.
I’ve been waiting for this day for 22 years. It’s time to get it done now, and enjoy however it goes.
Starting with the most important, down to fun but unimportant.
